Horrors of the subconscious

Illustration

What is this about:
The exhibition showes unspoken feelings inside of a person, who lives through trauma. Those feelings are dark and difficult to explain, but visualised with art.
"Horrors of subconsciousness" is series of paintings and photographs (self-portraits) that hold dark worlds, created inside if the soul, that experienced trauma: war, emotional and sexual abuse. Each art piece is different and tells a different story of the same unbearable darkness from the inside.

"The damage you don't see"
Portrait. Just a normal one, before you look in the eyes. A starting point of the exhibition, that meant to show that you can never tell what person is going through by just observing them from outside.

"First filling" - my first painting after beginning of the war in Ukraine, that shows the first feeling that fills the body from inside, after long numbness and confusion, burning anger that explodes after denial and shocked blindness

"I saw fire" - dark painting showing agony and anger, that burns body and soul from inside with the memories, scratching with metal wires

"Anxiety" - noisy sound of grinding teeth. Sometimes anxiety feels like someone is constantly watching, or eating you from inside, or squishing like a wet sponge, it feels like you body is no longer yours and everything is mixed up the way it is not suppose to

"No self"My most underunderstood painting about sexual trauma. You see a woman. She is crowling towads the light, towards the life. But she is stuck. She is naked and wulnurable, handcuffs are screwed into her skin, she is bleeding. Her arms are stuck in the ground. Black mask is also forcedly attached to her face, taking of the personality, leaving just wounded sexualized body. Most people who have not experienced trauma look at this art as a kinky BDSM painting, until notice the screws on the handcuffs, blood and tears. Same as you look at the person who lived through trauma. You don't see, if you don't look.

"Distortion" Vulnerable feeling that follows in the night. Body feels heavy and forced, arms feel bent back.
